The BIOSYNTHIS approach

The quality of cosmetics ingredients is essential to ensure the safety, quality and effectiveness of cosmetics. It is in this context that, since the creation of BIOSYNTHIS PRODUCTION, the objective of BIOSYNTHIS is to follow the guidelines of the EFfCI guide (2012) on its production site. EFfCI gives access to GMP guidelines (Good Manufacturing Practice) for the production of cosmetics ingredients. As nature offers a wide range of substances and possibilities, the BIOSYNTHIS approach is really motivated by Green Chemistry to offer an alternative to synthetic ingredients. Some of BIOSYNTHIS ‘flagship ingredients comply with ECOCERT and COSMOS standards.

Founded in 2001 by Thierry Bernoud, BIOSYNTHIS manufactures renewable raw materials mainly for cosmetics and lubricants as well as micro-encapsulated active ingredients for agro-industry (biopesticides) and perfumes. It offers innovative technical solutions, result of a green and sustainable chemistry.
BIOSYNTHIS now holds 5 major patents that protect its innovations and allow it to exclusively offer technological ingredients with highly sought-after cosmetic properties such as biodegradable vegetable paraffins, proposed as substitutes for volatile silicones widely used in cosmetics (worldwide exclusivity) or still biosourced polyesters for the production of translucent lipsticks.

These innovative biosourced ingredients replace volatile mineral silicones in cosmetic products such as Isododecane and Cyclomethicone D4. These volatile mineral silicones are not biodegradable and become disadvantages for the environment (sun creams, the biggest pollutants of the summer). Vegelight is easily biodegradable. Vegelight 1214 LC can be a dispersing agent for pigments and mineral filters, a solubilizing agent for elastomers and a volatile oil for styling. This ingredient is COSMOS certified.


Viscoplast® are biobased polymers that replace non-biodegradable polybutenes. This product is obtained by esterification of vegetable dimer acid and biological polyols. They give a shiny effect without being sticky and are waterproof. They are also proposed as thickening agent.


These are cosmetic emollients of vegetable origin.


The KaranSun® range is based on a natural oil derived from Indian biodiversity. Karanjine and Pongamol are two absorbent molecules in UVA and UVB. These products that can be used as a solar filter booster. Karanjine is used as a biopesticide in India (in combination with Neem oil). As a result, Biosynthis is pleased to offer a quality depleted in Karanjine and enriched with Pongamol. The result is spectacular with the KaranSun SC50; it is a great natural anti-UVA booster, it is biodegradable and certified ECOCERT/COSMOS. In addition, it presents no irritation to the skin (HRIPT).


This is a vegetable substitute for lanolin. In addition to having a high emollient power, it allows a good dispersion of the pigments. It is also a good emollient stable to oxidation.
